Behold the Reading Slump

I have been in a serious reading slump lately. Work is busy, yes. I am traveling more, yes. There are family events happening, yes. However, none of that has ever stopped me from reading before.

But, ALAS! It has! I looked over the blog and found that I had a slump in 2013, then again in 2015. So, it stands to reason that, after the cursory two years, it is time for another one.

I have tried to read "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, "Mrs. Poe" by Lynn Cullen, "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" by Iain Reid, "Beartown" by Fredrik Backman, and I never finished the tome "4321" by Paul Auster.

So, I am going to read as I feel like it. There is a reason my brain wants to take a reading break, and I am not going to fight my subconscious by entertaining the myriad of articles on how to overcome a reading slump.

Embrace the slump!

  1. I don't think I have ever in my whole life had a reading slump!!!!
So I can't say "I know how you feel!"
Other reader friends have told me they were in a reading slump and I was like - "WHAAAAAAAATT?????" What is that? LOL

Well I hope you get over it soon! Are you seeing a therapist about this??? LOL

    1. So funny you would ask me if I am seeing a therapist about this, because there are a LOT of articles about how to avoid/overcome/deal with a reading slump. I see nothing about how you should embrace the slump, and wait for it to pass. I am not one to shy away from confrontation, but I am not going to spend time spinning away from a reading respite.

And, seriously, you've NEVER entered into a reading slump! Very impressive, and a little awe-inspiring. You must pace yourself well with your books. Well done!!

Well, I think because I love to read such a wide variety of genres, and I do try to switch it up as much as possible. I will go from a thriller to historical fiction to christian fiction etc. And - I also love to throw in a few really quick short stories or novellas. Which is something I never used to do, but now I love them as "filler" so to speak.
Its good to see you reading again!
